How to Play Word Recipe
Word Recipe is a daily word-building puzzle that challenges you to think associatively. Each day, a hidden word is chosen and you know only its category — Nature, Technology, History, Art, and more. Your job is to “cook up” the hidden word by feeding it ingredient words that are semantically related.
Every valid ingredient you type adds points to your Structure meter. Some ingredients are worth more than others — the more specific and closely related a word is to the hidden answer, the higher its score. Fill the Structure meter to 100% to fully reveal the hidden word and win the puzzle.
The key strategic element is chaining. Each ingredient has a set of words it naturally connects to. If your next ingredient follows logically from the previous one (like “lava” → “heat” → “fire”), you earn a 25% score bonus. Building long, connected chains is the most efficient way to reach 100%.
Three meters track your progress: Structure shows your overall progress toward solving the puzzle. Heat measures the average quality of your ingredient words — use high-value words to keep it high. Chain shows how well your words connect to each other. Aim for all three to be high for the best score.
Your progress is automatically saved in your browser. Come back anytime during the day to continue your puzzle. At midnight UTC, a brand new puzzle appears for everyone. After solving (or giving up), you can copy a spoiler-free results card to share on social media — just like your favorite daily word games.
Strategy Tips
Start broad, then go specific. Begin with a general word related to the category, then follow the chain connections to more specific, higher-scoring words. For example, if the category is “Nature”, start with “mountain” and chain to “peak” → “summit” → “crater”.
Watch for chain arrows. Green arrows (→) between words in your chain mean they’re connected and you got the bonus. Gray dots (·) mean the word was valid but not connected to the previous one. Try to maximize green connections.
The category is your biggest clue. Every ingredient word is thematically connected to the answer. If the category is “Technology”, think about words related to computers, science, and innovation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does Word Recipe work?
You're given a hidden word and its category. Type ingredient words that relate to the hidden word. Each valid ingredient adds points to your Structure meter. When you reach 100%, the word is fully revealed and you win!
What is the chain bonus?
When your ingredient word logically follows the previous one (e.g., 'lava' → 'heat'), you earn a 25% score bonus on that word. Chaining ingredients together is the key to winning efficiently.
Is there a new puzzle every day?
Yes! A fresh Word Recipe puzzle unlocks every day at midnight UTC. Your progress is saved locally so you can come back and continue where you left off.
What do the three meters mean?
Structure measures your total progress toward revealing the word. Heat shows your average quality per word — higher-scoring ingredients make it hotter. Chain shows what percentage of your words are connected to the previous one.
Can I share my results?
Absolutely! After completing a puzzle (win or give up), you can copy a spoiler-free results card to share with friends — just like Wordle.
What happens if I use a word that isn't an ingredient?
The input will shake and you'll see a message. Only words from the puzzle's ingredient list are accepted. Think about words closely related to the hidden word's category.
